The Senior Card Commerce Team

Dave Hunter, Managing Director

As a founder of Card Commerce, Dave has been with the company since day one and, in that time, has seen the prepaid debit sector change and grow significantly.

With over 20 years in the financial services industry and almost 15 of them working in payments related roles, Dave is well placed to manage the direction and dynamic of the company.

Dave started his career in Bank of Ireland where he worked in a variety of roles in IT, Corporate and International business units. In 1998 he became responsible for the Retail Payments programme and has focused on payments related businesses since.

In 2000, Dave joined Marrakech, the high profile e-commerce start-up, where he was responsible for the strategy, development and rollout of all financial and billing products and, in 2002, moved to COMIT Gruppe, a Swiss-based IT Consultancy. Here he specialised in risk based products and was responsible for the sales and marketing of IT Services to financial services organisations in both the UK and Ireland.

Previously, Dave held the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Irish Retail Electronic Clearing Company and has sat on the Board of Directors of the Global Trust Authority, an international organisation, representing in excess of 800 banks.

For Dave, customer proposition is the key factor in determining who will win in the prepaid market, “If customers aren’t happy then the programme will fail. This is precisely why Card Commerce has more product marketing than IT resources. Bottom line - prepaid is not an IT solution, it is a customer product”.

Eoin Whyte, Business Development Director

Eoin joined Card Commerce in 2006 having previously held senior sales positions in Northgate HR and, prior to that, Dell, UK and Ireland.

Eoin’s role is twofold. He drives the adoption of Card Commerce’s prepaid solutions by the retail sector through our channel partners and, at the same time, delivers new prepaid services to our partners, helping them to increase customer satisfaction, drive revenues and differentiate themselves from their competitors

Eoin passionately believes that clear product and go-to-market strategies, service delivery excellence and price will be key to success in the growing prepaid market.

And the one thing that will dive mass consumer take up of prepaid? According to Eoin it’s mass availability. “The gift card market still has a lot of growing room in terms of merchant penetration but technology barriers have precluded a swathe of UK retailers from joining in the fun. By working with our partners to supply prepaid via acquiring terminals that already exist in-store, Card Commerce is breaking down those barriers and seeing fantastic reactions from retailers as a result”

Ken Tormey, Product and Projects Manager

With a background in the development and management of large-scale technical projects, Ken joined Card Commerce from Bank of Ireland in 2007.

To date, Ken’s roles have revolved around payments, from development of ATM network applications and inter-bank sharing facilities for Bank of Ireland to working on numerous banking and payments initiatives for Vision Consulting, to the role of Head of Engineering at Marrakech where he built supply chain software and its supporting finance components.

Ken is responsible for Card Commerce’s product roadmap, product development and our implementation lifecycle for partner organisations. He works closely with Operations and Sales to ensure that Card Commerce develops leading edge functionality that exceeds the expectations of our partners and their customers.

According to Ken, no two days are the same “The variety is great. Card Commerce is a growing company in a dynamic sector and I get to see every step of the customer process from requirements definition to project go-live. We really are breaking new ground on some of these projects so working with customers through every step of the project lifecycle means that I can bring very relevant learnings from one project to the next”.

Clare Corcoran, Operations Manager

Clare joined Card Commerce in 2006 and, with a background in vendor selection and management; procedures definition and design; and project management, has a skill set perfectly suited to that of Operations Manager.

Prior to joining Card Commerce, Clare held a variety of roles across Project Management, IT Management and Facilities in ESB, Ulster Bank, Financial Dynamics PR, Citigroup, Elan and Pfizer.

Clare has responsibility for a number of critical service functions in Card Commerce including Merchant Registration, Billing & Settlement, Production Systems, Process and Procedure, Customer Service and Fulfilment. In addition she is responsible for CC’s production environment and supporting IT systems.

According to Clare, key to the success of prepaid debit is retailer education, ”Once retailers understand the benefits of prepaid, that they have to develop unique customer offers and that there are opportunities for prepaid outside of ‘gift card’ they really will start to reap significant reward”.
