New Functionality – Customer Rewards

Cardholder rewards with no change to Merchant’s PDQ terminal.

Card Commerce today announced that it has added a new module to its prepaid card offer, allowing merchants to launch Rewards programmes with no change to their existing PDQ Terminal. Our Rewards module is a fast, effective way for existing gift card merchants to engage with, and drive incremental spend from, their customers.

When a customer tops up their card, they are rewarded with points. On a regular basis (or when selected by the consumer) those points are converted to a cash balance and added back to their card for immediate use in-store. Merchants have total control over the programme, setting the time and day of the week that specific ‘offers’ (such as double or triple points) apply, and the ‘points-to-cash’ redemption rate.

Consumers are also encouraged to ‘sign-up’ to the Merchant’s programme by entering their personal details and card number online in return for extra rewards points.

If you’re thinking about launching a savings card or a coffee card for example, this is a great way to incentivise your customers to load their cards – an added bonus for them and another reason to contact them and get them into your store!

Key features of the Rewards module include:

  • Merchants can define multiple rewards ‘offers’
  • Merchant can schedule these offers as recurring (e.g. every Tuesday from 9am  to noon) or date-bound (e.g. offer applies at all times until 31st March)
  • Cardholders can register their card number and personal details online in return for further rewards points
  • The system can track and manage cardholder’s points balance based on their card top-ups
  • The system can redeem points as cash via a periodic batch process or via cardholder self-redemption option.

Commented Paul Gaffney, Service Delivery Director, “We are always developing new ways to support our partners and their merchants and Rewards is a great example of how we are doing this. Initially, Rewards will allow merchants to give points based on card top-ups and, eventually, this functionality will be extended to allocation of points on all purchases.”
