Bands debut at Isle of Wight FestivalWednesday, 03 August 2011 Prepaid innovation knows no Bands!A play on words I know but at the recent Isle of Wight Festival revellers were trialling a new method of payment, delivered by contactless wrist bands! 150 festival-goers were offered the first ever MasterCard PayPass prepaid contactless wristbands.
The bands were pre-loaded with £30 and could be used to pay for food and drink by simply waving the band against a dedicated contactless reader.
![]() Just like contactless credit or debit cards, the wrist bands are designed to speed up transaction time taken to make a payment.
Apparently feedback from those who tested the bands was very positive, in fact 98% said they were easier to use than traditional debit or credit cards.
The UK now has contactless payments via mobile phones, credit cards and wrist bands, what’s next? Mobile payments via finger print recognition? Watch this space!
