'Father's Gift Card Day'Tuesday, 14 June 2011 Happy Dads. Made Easy.Mother’s Day each year is the sacred cow (no pun intended) of annual calendar celebration days. While it is a touch below the wedding anniversary and spouse birthday, it remains a key gifting and therefore emotionally dangerous day to make a hash of.
Father’s Day on the other hand has to be the forgotten child – let’s face it, we Dads don’t take it that seriously now do we? However, any opportunity to put the feet up and enjoy some unswerving attention is to be welcomed.
According to this US article though, (Retailers Fail to Cash in on Father's Day) retailers are failing to cash in on Father’s Day as a gifting occasion and consequently consumers are spending $30 to $50 less on Dad than Mom gets on Mother’s Day. Now that’s just plain unfair!
I would vote for a slight title alteration to ‘Father’s Gift Card Day’ where we are entitled to request a gift card as a present on the day rather the dodgy jumper. If the aforementioned article is correct just 13% of the Father’s Day USA spend is on gift cards, yet they fit our needs perfectly. Where does one go to start a campaign? Hallmark?!
PS. How many Dads knew it was Father’s Day this coming Sunday? …. I thought so!
