Somewhat unsurprisingly, Christmas shoppers turned to gift cards in their droves to ensure their friends and families were still smiling on Christmas morning. And how warm it feels to this writer to see those retailers who are investing in multiple sales channels being richly rewarded for their efforts. M&S online gift card sales up by 30% year on year is just about as good a testimonial as you can get to the validity of promoting your gift card in as many channels (and as many places instore) as possible. This windfall will certainly help to cushion anecdotal commentary on a tougher year for corporate gift card sales
