No Terminal? Get a smartphone!Friday, 03 September 2010 50% of UK SMEs using smartphones for email or paymentsAs reported in today's Finextra, a quarterly survey of British SMEs by The Open University Business School, Barclays Bank and accountancy body the ACCA, has revealed that almost half of British SMEs are using smartphone for email or to log onto the web for business and payments. With more and more (and cheaper) Apple OS and Google Android powered phones and tablets in the market and the fact that there are a number of companies offering credit and debit card processing and other payment services on these devices (have a look at Worldnet TPS) there is massive growth potential in this area. Just think about all the small retailers, small hotels and B&Bs and even stall holders (I can name 10 trendy farmers and organic food markets off the top of my head alone!). With no access to a phone lines and transaction volumes that mightn't qualify them for acquiring from a mainstream banking institution, this is a cheap and easy way for them to get into the game. Add gift card, loyalty, rewards and other services to credit and debit card processing and you'll have a winning payment solution for SMEs wherever they may be!
